My Vote Counts
Monday March 17, 2008
March 11, 2008 - 02:35 PM For My Supporters... by Mike Huckabee Dear Troops:
The overwhelming response that we continue to receive on the website has been humbling. While we know the campaign is over, the cause to stand for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is not. I'm trying to adjust to a new routine and finding it difficult after being gone every night for the past 14 months. I think I will someday find a bottom to the pile of things stacked on my desk and in boxes nearby, but it may longer than I thought. Of course, I will be working hard to elect GOP candidates this year--from Senator McCain all the way down to helping with candidates at the state level. I will also be creating an organization that will help us focus on activating people around the nation to take a stand and become citizens who are both informed and involved in America's future. We will have more details about that soon. In another week or so, Janet and I will take off for a long 4 day weekend to have some time to reflect and recharge. As I watch the debate among the Democrats, one thing is apparent--the direction that either of them would take the country is dramatically different than what what we think needs to happen. I'm convinced that taxes would get much higher, government would be much more involved in our lives and the federal government would continue to eclipse the local governments. Our courts would change radically left for a generation, and the lives of the innocent unborn, disabled, and elderly would be more at risk than ever. We would have a grossly underfunded military, and small business owners would struggle with massive new regulations. I hope you'll continue to keep the faith and keep in touch. I wish we could personally call every one of you to say thanks for your sacrifices, encouragement, prayers, generous contributions to the campaign, and just plain hard work that you put forth. Life is good. God is merciful. You are wonderful! In the battle,
Mike Huckabee

News Release: Mike Huckabee Crosses Finish Line In Presidential Run
March 05, 2008
Little Rock, AR – Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee concluded his 2008 bid for the Republican nomination for President tonight, calling upon his supporters to embrace the candidacy of U.S. Senator John McCain (AZ). Huckabee, a champion of conservative values, said: “I extend my congratulations – and my commitment to John McCain and the Party – to do everything possible to unite our party and our nation, to be the best country we can be, not for ourselves, but for future generations. I am grateful that Senator McCain has led an honorable campaign because he is an honorable man.” “It's now important that we turn our attention, not to what could have been or what we wanted to have been, but what to now must be, and that is a united party,” Huckabee stated in his speech to supporters gathered in Texas tonight. Huckabee said, “Not only have we fought the good fight and finished the race but more importantly, we have kept the faith. I would rather lose an election than lose the principles that got me into politics in the first place.”
“While many in the establishment never really believed I belonged, there were many in the country that did,” he said. “Thanks to their sacrifices, I had a voice – and I only pray that I have been able to give them a voice.”
Huckabee said he represented average Americans who work two jobs to meet ends meet; conservatives who want less – but more efficient – government with less corruption; people who believe we should overhaul our tax system, implement the Fair Tax ad and get rid of the IRS; the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines, who keep us free; those who cherish life and those who have yet to be born. Huckabee, who ran an extremely small but cost-effective campaign, concluded his remarks by stating, “Our battle was never about us. It was about our country and its liberty. Now, we join with Senator McCain in the rest of that battle, not for who gets elected, but for what we can do when we get elected.” Huckabee finishes the race with delegates from his victory in eight primaries and caucuses. He won caucuses in Iowa, West Virginia, and Kansas. Huckabee also won primaries in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Louisiana, and his home state of Arkansas.

A blogger, Bonnie Bucklaw, on the Huckabee websight recently wrote the following explanation of a brokered convention. I'm believing that Governor Huckabee can be a victor if a brokered convention occurs.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
BROKERED CONVENTION: Brokered Convention = a discussion about what it means to be a Republican. Posted by Conservatives United on Saturday, February 09, 2008 1:45:17 PM
1) Republican Brokered Conventions result in wins!
Abraham Lincoln – 3rd Ballot - Won Presidency Rutherford Hayes – 7th Ballot - Won Presidency James Garfield - 36th Ballot - Won Presidency Warning Harding – 10th Ballot – Won Presidency Dwight D. Eisenhower – “2nd Ballot” – Won Presidency
2) McCain has to win 467 more delegates (44% of remaining delegates) to secure the nomination. Huckabee needs 639 delegates (57% of remaining delegates) to force a Brokered Convention.
3) A Brokered Convention gives conservatives a voice. A Brokered Convention gives Mike Huckabee a voice. A Brokered Convention gives Mitt Romney a voice. A Brokered Convention keeps media attention on the Republican party for the next 6 months for free! If we just roll over and go to sleep the media will almost solely focus on the Democratic contest.
4) In 1968 Reagan stayed in the race and came in 3rd at the convention with 182 delegates. In 1976 Reagan stayed in the race all the way to the convention and prevented Ford from getting to 1130 delegates. Ford cut a deal that secured enough delegates before the 1st Ballot but Reagan did not bow out until Ford had crossed the finish line.
Reagan’s Revolution says: “Reagan came into the 1976 North Carolina primary having lost the first five consecutive primaries to Ford. The national party establishment was against Reagan, the media started to write him off, and his campaign was broke and in debt. Needless to say, the pressure to drop out of the race was nearly overwhelming.”
Even though Reagan won in NC it was soon statistically impossible for Reagan to win. He still stayed in. He said conservatives have a problem with Ford and until he gets 1130 I will press on.
5) Conservatives Unite! There is still time! Win the Red States and we go to the convention for a discussion about what it means to be a Republican.
Hope this brings encouragement and hope. Spread the word.

Despite what the talking heads may say, Huckabee still has a legitimate shot at being the Republican nominee via a Convention vote strategy.
If you haven't voted in your state's primary/caucus yet, a vote for Huckabee is NOT a lost vote. It can still make a difference.
Huckabee is the only real conservative running for president. Let's get behind him. There are still a lot of American who haven't voted yet. And, their vote counts!
If you have already voted, you can still support Governor Huckabee by making a dontation, praying, blogging, writing letters to newspaper editors, calling into talk radio programs and talking to your friends about his candidacy.

The post below was written by Governor Huckabee today. It summarizes why I'm still hoping and praying that he will receive the Republican nomination.
------------------------------------------------------------------- Why Am I Still Running? By Governor Mike Huckabee
The first question I am often asked these days is: "Why are you still running for President?"
It is because I believe that I am the best candidate to represent you in the fall against the Democrats. Why? Because I have core conservative beliefs that I have never wavered from:
I believe in the Human Life Amendment and I will fight for it from Day 1 of my Presidency.
I believe in the Marriage Amendment.
I believe in massive tax reform and am an advocate of the FairTax.
I believe that President Bush's tax cuts should be made permanent.
I believe in the Surge, our troops and General Petraeus.
I believe the 2nd amendment is one of the best ways to protect us from tyranny and I will work tirelessly to protect it from activist judges.
I believe in real border security and have proposed a detailed 9 point plan to secure our borders.
I believe the best judge is a conservative judge that won't legislate from the bench.
These are some of the reasons why I am running for President and let me also say that YOU are another reason. I am running to give you a voice in the process. To lift up your voice with mine and to tell our Party and our government that we need to do better. We need to think big and fight for our ideas.
There’s lots of voting left to be done before our Republican Party’s nominee is decided.
Share this blog post with your friends and family and spread the word. We are still in this race and we are running hard.

From the Huckabee for President Website:
AP Breaking News: Evangelical leader James Dobson to endorse Mike Huckabee for GOP presidential nod
By ERIC GORSKI AP Religion Writer
James Dobson, one of the nation's most prominent evangelical Christian leaders, is about to endorse former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, the Associated Press has learned. Dobson, founder of Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Focus on the Family, talked to the GOP presidential hopeful Thursday and later was to release a statement explaining his choice, said Gary Schneeberger, a spokesman for Dobson.
Huckabee had long sought Dobson's endorsement, believing he is the best fit to advance Dobson's conservative, moral worldview.
